elephant kanji sound colour mnemonic

漢字 · かんじ

Aule Kanji Pages · Kanji Recog Pages

The kanji for elephant,

 象

must be recalled as

  ゾウ

This is the pattern, the shape of things to come if not an image for some sign of the times. Not crimson on green or dry yellow and brown.

On-yomi and kun-yomi variations in the Conning kanji selections

漢字 · かんじ

Aule Kanji Pages · Kanji Recog Pages

This is an unusual sequence in Conning's KKLC ; you may note that 3 have no on-yomi in Conning and 4 have no kun-yomi but this will not always match the more complete Halpern 2013 2nd ed. KKLD ( the second column of id's) or a book such as Henshall. Conning's book is focussed on learning the BASIC meanings of his 2,300 kanji (Halpern has 3,002.)
